MIDI TOOLS VOLUME ONE by Philip Meyer

video uploads by Isotonik Studios

AVAILABLE HERE: https://isotonikstudios.com/product/midi-tools-by-philip-meyer/

"This is a collection of 12 devices for making rhythmic music in Ableton Live 12. They are some of the first Max for Live MIDI Tools, which is a new class of Live device that generates and transforms MIDI clips.

I’ve always liked to make complex rhythmic music, but in the past I found the piano roll in Live to be clunky and tedious to use. MIDI Tools resolve this problem by allowing us to create simple devices that automate processes that would be tedious or impossible to execute manually. Every device in this collection is designed to help you make exciting, novel rhythmic music quickly and playfully.

The 'quickly and playfully' is really important to me. For me, making electronic music has always been about getting a pattern running, listening to it, then tweaking it with whatever knobs and sliders are available to me. Working this way puts you in a sort of dialog with the machine, where you’re acting, then listening, then acting, then listening, and so forth. This process works best when the cycles are fast, which means that the tools have to be fun and easy to use. They have to deliver results quickly.

I could summarize the practical value of these tools with three statements:

They generate ideas to get my creativity flowing

They all you to create rhythms (such as nested rhythms, rallentandos, and polyrhythms) that are very difficult to create using the piano roll interface

They help you create variations on rhythmic and melodic ideas, to make your music varied and interesting. I’ve also found that the power of these devices really emerges when you use them in serial workflows. By this I mean that you start with some initial MIDI (maybe from a Generator, or maybe not), then process the MIDI with several different transformers.

You can see an example of a serial process in THIS VIDEO, in which I create some rhythmic containers using the Blocks generator, then used the Divs transformer to subdivide those containers to create a new rhythm, then used Feel to dial in the groove. There’s tons of ways to mix and match the devices, which means lots of space to develop your own favorite approaches.

These devices all work with Ableton 12’s new Scales feature. When a scale is enabled on the MIDI clip, the device will only produce notes that are in key. If you disable the scale, then you can work chromatically. The devices are also aware of Live’s themes, so your devices will always match the look and feel of your Live set."

Korg 770 Analog Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"Here's your chance to own this rare historic synth. All knobs, keys, pots and wood-housing is original. Everything has been cleaned and everything is functioning. This thing produces beautifully warm bass and lead sounds. And the ring modulator will take you into some wild sci-fi territories too. Only major blemish is a chipped key (see last photo) key still is fully functional.

The Korg 770 is a monophonic analog synthesizer introduced by Korg in 1976. Based on the same circuitry as the two-VCO version of the Mini-Korg, the 770 offered a more conventional re-packaging, and some control improvements to make the synth more versatile.

VCO 1 offered five choices of waveform, with triangle, sawtooth, square, pulse, and a pulse-width-modulated (rate controlled by an LFO) pulse wave on tap, or an external input could be selected. The VCO included an octave select switch with six settings, including a 64' deep bass setting. VCO 2 produced only a sawtooth wave, or it could be ring modulated against VCO 2, or any of three varieties of noise could be selected. The tuning could be offset from VCO 1. A blend control allowed the user to select the mix of the two signal sources. Other controls at the right side of the panel allowed the user to apply an "auto bend", or vibrato controlled by a dedicated LFO separate from the main LFO. (There were no pitch or mod wheels.)

Testing Nakst Integrate - Classic Hardstyle Lead

video upload by Eyezer Productionz | Synths & Audio

Note Nakst was first introduced a year go.

"Introduction (from the manual):

As technology has improved, it has become possible for manufacturers to produce increasingly complex synthesizers. This has led to the creation of synths that trade off easeof-use for maximum sound design potential, spreading hundreds upon hundreds of options and parameters throughout dizzying interfaces, full of tabs and menus. They provide oscillators and filters with such immense algorithmic precision that any soul or character is stripped away before it has a chance to flourish in the sound. Integrate is not like that.

Integrate has been designed with the goal of creating an old-school virtual analog that has just as much personality as any of the classics, paired with a fantastic user interface that makes exploring the sonic possibilities an effortless pleasure. It cannot do everything, but this is intentional; limitations breed creativity. No longer will you spend hours scrolling through lists of wavetables, paralyzed by the impossible task of deciding which is the best to use – a question that has no right answer. Instead, Integrate has a simple two-page layout where every parameter has been selected for its unique axis of inspiration. Every dial, slider and button is waiting to delight you as you delve into a world of aural possibilities.

Many thanks to fdigl for providing me a NFR license for this plugin! Next video will feature some custom patches made by me.

"The old-school virtual analog synthesizer: reimagined and perfected.

A synthesizer optimized for creativity.

Integrate follows in the footsteps of the virtual analog classics we still love today, bringing together a straightforward user interface with an intricate and colorful sound engine.

Four mighty oscillators.
The four main oscillators come equipped with a selection of 74 waveforms and a flexible noise generator.
The traditional waveforms (sine, sawtooth, square and triangle) all have a specially chosen parameter that can be modulated, allowing you to creating evolving sounds. The noise generator has tweakable color, and it also supports key tracking for an effect reminiscent of early game consoles.
Also featuring FM, RM and hard sync, there's a world of possibilities waiting to be unlocked in these oscillators.
There's also a sub oscillator sporting three waveforms, ready to quickly beef up your patch.

Have it your way.
Integrate lets you configure the character of the oscillators, giving you the power to shape the sound of your patches from the very start of the signal path.

Pick between the “Clean” rendering mode for a modern touch, or the “Digital” mode to add a gritty punch to your sound.

Make anything super.
Oscillators A and B both sport a unison section, letting you turn a simple waveform into a 7 voice beast. Configure the detune and mix, or enable “Stereo” to spread the voices across the channels. You'll soon discover how much of a monster Integrate is at fat, anthemic sounds, perfect for mesmerizing listeners of any genre.

The latest technology.
Integrate is available in the new CLAP plugin format, boasting advanced features like non-destructive polyphonic parameter modulation and note stacking. We're proud to join its community of developers who are pioneering the latest in audio technology.

Information, only when you need it.
To keep the interface compact and free from distractions, Integrate keeps extra information about parameters neatly tucked away in popups that only show when you're interacting with the relevant controls.

Waveforms, envelopes, frequency spectrums all pop up as soon as you need them, and then instantly hide away once you're done with them.

Explore new territory.
Integrate isn't an emulation of an existing synth. Instead, it's a brand new design, waiting for you to explore what it's capable of. Dive into a world of characterful oscillators, screaming filters, chaotic LFOs, and dreamy reverbs. There's bound to be something that'll captivate your imagination.

Serge VC Resonant EQ for Eurorack

video upload by Serge Modular | Random*Source

"The legendary Serge Resonant EQ now with voltage control over each band - for #eurorack."

SERGE VC RESONANT EQ - A CLASSIC RELOADED

The legendary Serge Resonant EQ is a filterbank with ten bands, designed for electronic sound synthesis and processing, providing formant peaks and valleys similar to those found in acoustic instruments. It is one of the most unique sounding modules with an enormous spectral range. For the VC version, voltage control over each individual band has been added - an attenuverter (CV processor) allows to determine exactly whether the CV applied shall emphasize or decrease each filter band. Each band now also has an individual output.
The CV inputs can also be abused to feed audio signals - e.g. form an external oscillar or one of the individual outputs - into the system.
The eurorack version adds a two-channel mixer with attenuators and a Feedback section which allows to feed back the output signal. A powerful tool for sound processing but also for sound creation!
There are three equalized outputs: the two Comb outputs provide the sums of the two alternate filter bands while the two top outputs are the mix of all filter bands. Please note that there is no sharp separation between the bands, moving any frequency knob will have an influence on both Comb outputs.

Soniccouture Releases Kora: 21 String African Harp For Kontakt Player NKS

Andre Louis: Kora Improv With MIDI PLayer video upload by Soniccouture

"Andre Louis improvises with the built in 'kumbengo' MIDI backing generator in Soniccouture's Kora VI."

via Soniccouture

A beautiful & fascinating African instrument, the Kora is hard to classify. With 21 strings and a cow-hide resonator, it's a type of bridge harp, but with some lute or guitar DNA in the mix.

The kora is made from a gourd, which is cut in half and covered with cow hide. This forms the resonator of the instrument. There are 21 strings, suspended by a double notched bridge - 10 on one side, 11 on the other. This is typical of a double harp and it is classified as such. However, because the strings originate from a 'neck' and cross a bridge into a resonator, this also makes it a lute.

Soniccouture’s VST version is incredibly playable and versatile, featuring a MIDI pattern player for authentic accompaniment.

• 40 VELOCITY LAYERS + MUTE ACCENTS / KEY OFFS • MIC + CONTACT CHANNELS
• MIDI PATTERN PLAYER
• MICRO-TUNING
• 6GB LIBRARY
• KONTAKT PLAYER + NKS
INTRO OFFER
€89 (€129) | $89 ($129)

Until May 15th 2024. Price as marked on website, no code required. Offer excludes other discount codes.

4/15/24 Viscount R-64s PCM + Peavey 1300 + DBX 900 (3x 905/903) + Lexicon PCM 70 (small room)

video upload by Cfpp0

"In boca al lupo, ragazza. Ciao! A final test of the recently serviced, perfectly working, very rare, and wonderfully Italian Viscount R-64s PCM 8-bit drum machine before packing it up and sending it off to its new owner. Mix out goes mono to a Mackie submixer to the DBX 900, going through one 905/903 into the next 905/903, with an aux send from the Mackie out to the Peavey 1300 delay going to a third 905/903 set. Those two signals then go to two channels on the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer, with Lexicon PCM 70 small room reverb on an aux."

New X1L3 - DRAIL - hacked fx processor - eurorack module

video upload by X1L3

"Hardware hacked fx processor module.
What it is and where to get it - below.......

Available at: https://x1l3.bigcartel.com/product/dr...

A few sections of this vid contain strobing and flashing images. If susceptible to seizures then viewer discretion is advised.

Amiga/P3 W95 demoscene spec run down and demo. Created due to a request to demo the module in a way that wasn't 'just noise'. Initially intended to be one part made from the best track out of three that i came up with. Later deciding to shoe horn the two reject demo tunes into it, which lead to it becoming a ramshackle lesson in polygons and 3d. It also caused the whole thing to end up panning out like some kind of messed up fever dream 💀🤣

Drail is an fx processor module based on a fixed chip set containing 100 preset effects. Reverbs, delays, pitch shifters and modulators of various types, such as flangers and phasers. More details are over on the bigcartel link. Hacked referring to the hardware hacking principles applied in reclocking the cpu and messing with the phase in the signal path to turn it into the somewhat weird thing it is now. Hacked also sounds better than circuit bent, which has been done to death as a term and wouldn't fit on the front panel anyway 💀🐗

A bit of a departure from my usual powerelectronix/sound design outings when it comes to modules. Right now this is the only demo i have complete. I'll upload some stuff soon that's more in line with the roots of where i came from, and which features some other new stuff that got completed in the somewhat hell froze over time it took me to complete this outing 🔥🔥

As always - enjoy - or don't.
The sun rises in the morning either way 😘☀️👌

Cheers for checking it out."

"The module is based on a fixed stereo fx processor chip which contains 100 presets. These presets consist of numerous reverbs, delays, harmonizer/pitch shifters and modulators such as flangers and phasers.

It has a mono input, a summed L/R mix output with dry wet control which covers 0-100% wet,
Two 100% wet stereo outputs give access to the ping pong delays and different phases of panning in the stereo field that some of the effects use,
The combination of summed dry wet and separate stereo fx ouputs offers some variation in how you might hook the module up to achieve different results in a setup.

Patches can be selected manually, or by gate inputs with an input to cycle each way through the patches and an input to select them.

In stock form it's a fairly vanilla and quite unremarkable, all be it useful set of fx. By applying some of the tricks learned in my time in the circuit bending arena the whole thing becomes a Swiss army knife of weirdness and opens up to some bizarre effects and unruly behavior. With the principles of hardware hacking applied and the cpu reclocked, along with some creative phase altering in the signal path, the processor takes on an entirely new life. Still being able to run as a useful set of stock reverbs, delays or modulators, but doubling up as an interesting sound design tool. All sorts of mad sounds and unexpectedly good processing can be achieved. Great for soundscapes, turning basic sounds into things that are bigger than the sum of their parts, making guitars sounds insane, it can even be used to turn a saw into a pseudo supersaw that somehow looks like a kind of mutated pwm square by using the modulator fx. This kind of thing gets fat when you start using both the dry wet mix output and the 100% wet L/R outs. With 100 fx to choose from, there's generally something interesting and at times fascinating to be found when messing around with it.

From experience, different fx chip sets behave in radically different ways when attempts to circuit bend or reclock them are made. Some prove to be pointless and uninteresting, others become prone to crashes and are rendered too unpredictable.and useless beyond extreme noise This one happens to be an excellent target for a bit of creative alteration. When underclocking the cpu, a kind of subtle low pass filtering effect is applied. Not enough to make the effect undesirable, but enough to eliminate the unwanted noise inherent to underclocking. In testing this chip set and discovering it's predictable, but quite abstract nature when abused, it became obvious that it would make a brilliant target for an interesting module. One which i'm finding to be an excellent addition to my own rigs. Given the roots of how it came about and how that ended up sounding, it is i imagine an acquired taste, but a quite unique acquired taste in the scheme of things."

"The legendary ARP-1601 Sequencer. One of the very first analog sequencers ever made. Used by Paul McCartney on ‘Temporary Secretary’ and John Carpenter on countless film scores.

This particular example is in very good shape. All sliders cleaned by the top synth tech in Toronto a few years back. One fader cap replaced. Custom Black Walnut Sides. Some minor scratches on the bottom front of the panel. A beautiful example of an iconic piece of synth history. A perfect pairing for your ARP 2600 or modular setup.

Eowave - Ricochet (Very fun!)

video upload by NOISEBUG

"Eowave Ricochet is one fun module! Dynamic Trigs, quad-VCA with individual and sum outputs, quad decay envelope that can be "Linked" triggered at the end of the previous cycle, summed and cross-modulated.

This module is perfect for intricate percussive patterns. Add your favorite VCO and/or noise source, or use the built-in noise generator to get rolling rhythm, tight burst fills, and much much more.

The Ricochet can be expanded using the included jumper cable for twice the excitement. C\

"The module's design is inspired by the way skipping stones bounce on the water, creating a versatile tool for crafting percussive sounds.

The exponential envelopes are specifically designed to generate dynamic percussive tones. The unique linking function connects the end of one envelope's decay to the trigger of the next, enabling the subsequent envelope to activate once the previous one ends. This innovative feature allows you to create ratcheted envelope.

A front-panel trimmer lets you adjust the threshold for triggering subsequent envelopes, while a rear header enables connecting two Ricochet modules together ,or linking the last envelope to the first. This feature transform the Ricochet to a weird sequencer where the steps length depend of the decay times.

Since Ricochet is fully analogic, trig inputs are velocity-sensitive, responding to a standard gates but also allowing attenuation to modify the envelope's velocity (you can play with the dynamic of your sound by attenuating the trigg input. Ricochet is also perfect to play with drum pads).

Each VCA features a gain control that can be pushed to achieve subtle saturation.

All envelopes and VCAs have separate outputs, but there are also mixed audio and envelope outputs. When an individual output is connected, it is removed from the mix. The decay modulation inputs are normalized between each other.

Last but not least, an analog noise generator is normalised to the first input, so you can use ricochet on it's own to create hi hat kind of sounds
